I remember on a clip from last night's show he mentioned that the reason he chose Lennon's Imagine is because he felt connected to it.
I do not if he deliberately said this or if he just said to just say it but--

He specifically chose not to sing the verses that speak about there being no heaven, religion, etc. because he is a mormon. During Neil Diamond week he chose songs that didn't clash with his religious views. That's all great-- it shows that he does have opinions and makes choices. But how can he say he felt connected to the song Imagine?

I agree. I think he's a phony, just like all American Idol contestants.

honestly he probably just wanted to do the song for publicity.. if not he connected to other parts like no countries, no possessions. basically without all of crap people have done over the years. Living in peace basically.

I remember when I was younger I had to hide some of the music I listened to from my parents. So I'm guessing he is doing it out of respect for his religious beliefs. That was the first time ever watched last night and he did an excellent job. Seems like a real well behaved kid. Most mormon kids are though. I don't agree with there beliefs but they sure know how to raise a good kid.

well, like you said...it probably had to do with his religious beliefs. Either that, or he wanted to remain 'politically correct' for everyone else. I mean, is it a coinsidence that Carly got voted off after singing Jesus Christ Superstar?

you say you do not know if he did it deliberately then say he specifically chose not to sing the verses. and I think it is odd because I know A LOT of mormons that love that song, so I guess my point is, anyone can feel connected to a song, irregardless of their religious beliefs. I think he chose the parts he knew he could sing best, and of course he sang that song again, after the way it won everyone over the first time!

I didn't even notice but now that you bring it up...That's crazy!
He didn't feel connected. He just used the song because his daddy told him to plus he wanted to choose a SAFE song!

The song "Imagine" is about being in a socialist society.

Maybe if he had done a background check on the song itself, he may not have chosen it...........that is if he has any interest in politics.

I don't think they should have let DA sing Imagine again. It was horrible enough the first time! He only picked it AGAIN so he could concentrate on the other two songs and coast through on the last one. All of which were, of course, ballads. I am SO sick of him singing boring ballads every week. His performances feel the exact same every time. When I was watching the show last night, my mom said something like "They should have a sign going across the screen saying not to watch DA perform while operating heavy machinery" I LMFAO.

GO COOK!!!! THE TRUE AND TRULY TALENTED IDOL!

Imagine makes the point that many conflicts in the world are about God, Religion, etc. It assumes that if there were no god, religion, etc, that the conflicts would go away.

However, I believe that those are most often the excuses given where greed and power are the actual motives.
